The next step in this flexibility is the option of working from your phone, and that's what this article is about.

Why offer phone-based work?

Because it gives employees the option to work whenever and wherever. Alongside the upsides — boosted productivity and satisfaction — it has a less pretty side too: overwork and the lack of separation between life and work. So if you have the opportunity and the willingness to give employees this option, give it to them — but also let them breathe sometimes.

How do I do it?

·         Cloud — try to use as many cloud services and applications as possible.

·         Apps — pick apps that are friendly to use and optimized for mobile. I recommend trying them yourself first; you might find they suit you too.

·         Security — at first, give phones minimal access to sensitive data. Once employees adjust to how it works, you can grant broader access. It's also ideal — when using MFA, which you should ALWAYS use — to have it set up on a different device than the phone in question.

General tips

If you're worried your employees will do everything on the phone except work, either give them a company device with no distracting apps, or tell them to use focus mode. On some devices it can be set to switch on at a certain time or in a certain location, and it can do things like cut off access to social media or simply reduce the time spent on it.
