Time to switch

A few posts back I warned you that the move to Windows 11 would be necessary and that going now is a good idea. I had trouble convincing myself and put it off as long as I could.

A few posts back I warned you that the move to Windows 11 would be necessary and that going now is a good idea. I had trouble convincing myself and put it off as long as I could. After the switch and a bit of reorientation, I'm more than happy and wouldn't go back. So today I'll show you a few tricks that might make you like Windows 11 too.

Multiple desktops

macOS users will laugh because they've had this for ages, but the option to have multiple virtual desktops on one screen — and switch between them instantly with a keyboard shortcut — is great. Create a new desktop with Win + Tab and select "new desktop". Switch with Ctrl + Win + Left/Right arrow. (Works on Windows 10 too, but it's not as polished.)

UI

For Windows 11, Microsoft decided to lean more towards macOS — clearer menus and settings. The trimmed-down view is a huge advantage for normal users who avoid digging deep into the system. I sometimes positively enjoy fiddling with settings and playing with the system, and that side has been almost unchanged since Windows 10 (and effectively Windows 7).

Sounds nice but I'm not 100% convinced

Neither was I, but Windows 10 support is ending so it's time to move. No use crying over spilt milk — even though it's a change from Windows 10, for the regular user it's definitely for the better. So if you haven't yet, start migrating to Windows 11. Home machines might still last a while on Windows 10, but in companies I'd definitely start now.
