If you don't have multi-factor authentication (MFA) enabled, an attacker can use a "hacked" email to reach your other online accounts or reset passwords… (and you won't even notice it — the attacker creates a rule that cleverly "hides" the new incoming messages). ACTION ITEMS- Enable MFA, set a strong password, save it in a password manager (Chuck Norris doesn't need to — he remembers all the passwords in the world).
- Consider switching to a secure, encrypted mail provider like ProtonMail or Tutanota.
- Use email aliases to protect your real address — services like Anonaddy or SimpleLogin.
- Disable automatic loading of remote content — it's often used to track when an email is opened in detail or to load malicious code.
- Consider using your own domain. Why? If your current provider goes away, you don't lose your email address.
